National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)

"The National Council of Teachers of English is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education." Its sections and constituent groups serve members who teach at the same level, share the same interests, or live in the same geograhical area. Members include teachers of English and language arts at all levels.

Modern Language Association (MLA)

" Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy." Its members teach English or foreign languages, generally at the college or university level. Like NCTE, it has associated groups of various types.

Alliance for Computers and Writing (ACW)

"A national, non-profit organization committed to supporting teachers at all levels of computer-enhanced, computer-supported, and computer-based instruction."

American Literature Association

" A coalition of societies devoted to the study of American authors."

International Speech Communication Association (ISCA)

"The purpose of the association is to promote, in an international world-wide context, activities and exchanges in all fields related to speech communication science and technology. The association is aimed at all persons and institutions interested in fundamental research and technological development that aims at describing, explaining and reproducing the various aspects of human communication by speech, that is, without assuming this enumeration to be exhaustive, phonetics, linguistics, computer speech recognition and synthesis, speech compression, speaker recognition, aids to medical diagnosis of voice pathologies."

National Communication Association (NCA)

"NCA is the largest national organization dedicated to communication. Researchers, educators, and professionals, work to understand and better all forms of human communication. Through publications, resources, conferences, conventions, and services, NCA contributes to the greater good of education and society."

Society for Technical Communication (STC)

"A professional association that advances the arts and sciences of technical communication."

College Language Association (CLA)

"The College Language Association, founded in 1937 by a group of Black scholars and educators, is an organization of college teachers of English and foreign languages which serves the academic, scholarly and professional interests of its members and the collegiate communities they represent.  "
